Theme: “Education in Kazakhstan”, the 7th form

Aims:  -to use the words from the active vocabulary, guess the meaning of the words, using the definition

-to develop their skills in reading, making mind map, making cinquains, correcting the sentences about the education

-to develop interest and respect for the education

Procedure of the lesson

1.Organization moment:

  • Good morning! I’m really glad to see you. I hope everything is OK with you. So let’s begin our lesson. First of all let me tell you about the subject of today’s discussion. Today we are going to talk about education and schools.

2.Warming up: There are a lot of proverbs about education. On your desks you can find some of them. But their beginnings and endings are mixed. Try to match them. Find Kazakh equivalents. Choose and explain the meaning of one you like most of all.

  a) Proverbs and quotations about knowledge

Live and learn.

It’s never too late to learn.

Experience is the mother of wisdom.

Knowledge is power. (Francis Bacon)

Soon learnt soon forgotten.

Adversity is a great schoolmaster.

  b) True or false

1. State schools are paid for by money. (F)

2. Private schools education is free. (F)

3. In state schools classes are less crowded. (F)

3.  Reading: There is a text on your desks. You should read it carefully. Put the marks while reading the text. There are three different  marks:

“È”- (plus) New information

“-” - (minus) You don’t think so

This technique is called INSERT

 I- interactive N- noting S- system E- effective R- reading T- thinking

Education in the Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan children start going to school at the age they are 6. Before going to school, children attend kindergartens until they are six. Compulsory education begin at the age of 6 when children go to primary school. Primary education lasts for 4 years. First they attend the children to nursery schools. In nursery schools the children don’t have real classes. They play, learn numbers and how add them. The children go to the primary school until 10. They have classes, read, write do mathematics. The school curriculum included such subjects as Kazakh, Maths, Russian, Drawing, Physical Training and Music.

Primary and secondary schools together comprise eleven years of study. Nine years of classes is compulsory in our republic. Besides secondary schools there are other types of schools in Kazakhstan. In secondary schools students study of a certain subject, for example Foreign Languages, Literature, Physics and others. Secondary education in our country is free of charge. Among secondary schools there are gymnasiums, colleges and lyceums most of them are private.

7. Speaking: ”Tree of knowledge”.

Now it’s time to use your imagination and create the school of your dream. You can work in groups, in pairs or individually. But before we start, look at the tree of knowledge. There are a lot of apples in it. They are questions that will help you. Choose some of them and get down to work.



Questions:

  1. What subjects would you choose?

  2. The future of education books or computers?

  3. Are you for or against school uniform?

  4. Would you like to go to a private school?

  5. Would you like to study abroad?

  6. Should teachers give you homework? Is it necessary?

  1. Home task: Your home task is to write about school of your dream, draw your own mind map and tell us about your ideal school.
